There are many specific projects in Cebu that you can get involved in! These needs being met helps us to give the best we can to the children in our care. You will see that we most often need the money to purchase needed items rather than the items themselves. However, if you are in the Philippines and have an item that fills a need, we’d love to hear from you!
Please note that anytime we raise more than is needed for a particular item, we will apply the excess to the general needs of our ministry to needy children. Thank you for looking over these unique ways to love our kids!

After school, the kids need to find school supplies to work on their homework. This can sometimes be a challenge. We are looking for someone to donate 3 identical bins (one for each house that has school age children) full of needed school supplies for homework time.
It would be ideal if each bin had pencils, erasers, quality pencil sharpeners, a notebook, scissors, glue, markers, crayons and a calculator. We are looking for the school supplies to fit into the bin so when a child needs to work on homework, they can simply grab the bin and use it as needed and then it can be stored away again until next time. This keeps the school supplies away from the younger children in the home too.
This would be a great project for anyone wanting to donate to CSC with a hands-on project. Please contact our MN office for more details or questions.

A nebulizer is a machine that vaporizes liquid medication into a fine mist to be inhaled into the lungs. These are useful for distributing medication to our little residents in particular. We would like to have one for each of our three main residences, and also the infirmary.

Summer break starts in April in the Philippines, when hot season kicks in. Each summer our older children get the opportunity to select an activity for their time off school. These include swimming, gymnastics, badminton, cooking and art. The activities enrich their summer calendar and teach them something new. The kids love to return and share what they've learned. We especially appreciate cooking class particpants and the good food they bring home!

As you can imagine, the kids that come to CSC often need updated immunizations and sometimes may not have received any vaccines, as their birth family may not have been able to provide them. CSC values the medical needs of each child and ensures that children are caught up on their needed vaccinations up on admission and throughout their stay.

We take birthdays seriously! All our kids get a special celebration for their big day, which includes their favorite meal and some hand-picked friends from the other houses. Our US staff gather with the house parents and the kids to sing and make merriment with the birthday boy or girl!
We suggest a gift of $30. This is the cost of an average party, accounting for some of the children who have Foster Friend sponsors that help pay for the festivities.

Thanks to the efforts of our Education Director, Shari Reasoner, and Children of Hope School Principal, Cris Tabra, our curriculum at school has developed by leaps and bounds over the years. Recently, we have begun using "consumable" math books. These are workbooks that the kids write in directly. This is much more efficient than trying to make copies before each school day.

Yes, this one is just for fun, but the kids would love you for it! Karoke is very popular in the Philippines, and the shelter is no exception. Whatever the singing ability our kids love to sing! We have some karaoke machines, but they're run down and unreliable.

Our kids love to play outside, whether it is organized gym time or free play. It is not uncommon for the housefathers to get the playground balls out and get a game of basketball, volleyball or soccer going. Even the little kids enjoy bouncing around a rubber ball or running after them down the sidewalk.
One of the favorite outdoor activities is kite-flying. The kids enjoy it so much that they often make kites out of plastic bags. We would love to be able to provide some quality kites for them to use as well.

As you can imagine, there is an incredible amount of food that gets prepared each day in our homes as the caregivers meet this basic need for our kids. When the staff have tried to use household kitchen items, they start to fall apart after a few months of continual use. Similar to an industrial kitchen, our homes need quality heavy-duty stainless steel equipment to prepare the amount of food for our kids. Since we have four homes (Eicher, Cherne, Duterte and the Teen Home) we need four of each item.

Childcare is naturally, the single biggest portion of the CSC budget. This is what we do: care for children! Childcare workers are the front line employees who care for the kids we all love. You can help provide part of their compensation through this project.

Our carpeting at school gets a lot of use! We've taken great care of it. The kids remove their shoes before walking in the carpeted areas, and our maintenance and facilities staff do an excellent job. However, this is the original carpet in our school and it is time for a replacement. You can help dress up the place our kids go to learn!

Our school sound system is in need of a significant upgrade. We use a very basic system right now, and we use it frequently! There are morning meetings each week, and in the years since our school opened, we've found this is the spot we do big events like all-staff meetings, children's performances and programs. We would get a great deal of use out of this gift, including mics, mic stands, wires, speakers and amplifier.

Our school library computers are old and outdated. Several have stopped working altogether. Often, the children are losing time to work on their school work because they're rebooting or asking the teacher about a techinical issue. We'd like to swap them out for new ones.

A staff motorcycle would be a welcome addition to our fleet of vehicles. Primarily, this would be used to go between the shelter, main office and school. It would also be used for short trips in Cebu City where only one or two staff need to go. Jun, our IT professional, would use it especially.

It takes many vehicles to operate CSC. Children go to the doctor frequently, special needs residents need rides to work and school, and drivers run up and down our road to bring shifts of workers to and from the main road (the road we are on has a stretch that can be dangerous to walk down). We need our vehicles to operate a ministry like CSC...and those vehicles need plenty of gas!

The Outreach department at CSC is one of the unique areas of our ministry that doesn't always get a lot of press, but is very important. We have a Social Worker assigned to working with families who have been served by CSC in the past. These include those in which a child came to live with us temporarily, and then went back home. Also, this ministry touches those families that abandoned a child, but are still willing to accept help. You can help provide education and pay the staff costs associated with this important work.

Not long ago at CSC, we were unable to take most donations of items in the US office. The costs to ship via overseas simply outweighed the value of the items given. Having staff and visitors bring items on airlines also becoming costly. Then we found Forex. We are able to ship items to Cebu in a large box with no weight limit, and they arrive in about 6-8 weeks. We're able to send clothes, school supplies and Barbies!

We'd like to take our kids on a big field trip, to the neighboring island of Bohol. Every few years, we've had the opportunity to do a big trip like this and it creates a highlight of their time at CSC for many of our kids. We'd visit the famous Chocolate Hills and provide a mix of learning and recreation for our residents.

Our Teen Home residents are a busy bunch. They are in school, or working, and are involved in church and with friends at the Teen Home and elsewhere. It's good for these young people to take a small trip once or twice a year to get away from their routine. The house parents, Undoy and Edith, enjoy this time away to create special memories. They've gone to a resort to go swimming, visited another island or just gone out bowling together.

Our kids spend a lot of time at the shelter. That's okay, there's a lot to do there. They have school just up the road, and lots of friends and activities to keep them busy within the confines of our walls. But, it's also good to take them out for a special night occasionally. Typically, one or two staff members will take out a group of boys or girls who are close in age. This could be bowling, a movie, the arcade...any of the same things you might do for a special night with your family. You can help us provide these outings!

All our kids get a special celebration on their big day, which includes their favorite meal and some hand-picked friends from the other houses. And, of course it includes some gifts!
We suggest a contribution of $20 for a child. This is the cost of the average amount of gifts given, accounting for some of the children who have Foster Friend sponsors that help purchase gifts also. Thanks!

Many of the items on our Amazon wishlist are able to be shipped directly to Cebu. This saves us a great deal of money in delivery costs. Please visit our wishlist here on the Amazon website. Thanks for considering this way of giving to CSC!
