CSC’s fund saving efforts are supported by a number of faithful and hard-working volunteers who provide a number of important services to the ministry. Seven times a year a group of faithful vounteers gets together in Cambridge, Minnesota to process our mailing. Since our office is in Cambridge, most of our volunteers live in that area.
We'd be glad to have you join us! In addition to mailings, we have had volunteer help in a number of areas over the years, including carpentry, computer work, sorting and packing donations, consultancy,
media production, banquet set-up, artwork, editing, committee work and, of course, board leadership. Our needs in these areas do vary, but we would be happy to hear from you through the "contact us" link below.
Occasionally, volunteers will go to Cebu to help out, but most often they provide manpower for office related tasks in Cambridge.
One way that anyone can volunteer for CSC, regardless of their age or where they live, is to tell others about the ministry!
Work teams
Work teams have been a great blessing to CSC over the years. Teams from supporting churches and other friends have gone to Cebu to do construction projects,
lead special events like camps and Vacation Bible Schools, paint, do landscaping and help out in other areas.
CSC has guidelines and policies for work teams. Click here to download a Volunteer Handbook .pdf file that explains these.
If you have an interest in sending a work team to Cebu, please feel free to initiate the process by using the 'contact us' link below.
We cannot always grant requests for work teams to go to Cebu. Our staff will make the decision depending on need, the availability of staff people to help with logistics and supervision,
and other activities that are planned for the time when teams are requesting to go. We always give priority to teams from churches that support the ministry. Thank you for your interest in serving our children.
Yes. Visitors are welcome on a case-by-case basis. Our definition of a visitor is anyone who requests to go on a tour and spend less than one day at CSC. This is different than a volunteer and requires no application process. We ask for at least one week notice, with three to four week notice being ideal. You are asked to contact the Cebu business office by phone in order to arrange your visit. This can be done by e-mailing the stateside office at cscusa@cscshelter.org. CSC reserves the right to restrict visitation for any reason.
CSC has had many amazing volunteers over the years. We are grateful for all they have contributed. We haven’t forgotten that it was because of a short-term mission trip that Marlys Healy sensed a passion to found our ministry.
It is also true that we receive more requests for volunteering than we can accommodate. In general, anyone who volunteers has some connection to the ministry—with preference given to the deepest connections (a former resident for instance). We are unlikely to take on a volunteer who does not have some link to CSC because of family, church or another avenue. We recognize this is a disappointment for those interested in a Christian volunteer experience with children, but we hope you will respect our desire in light of the many volunteer requests we receive. For those who do have a connection to CSC, more information can be found in the volunteer handbook located in the downloadable resources section.
CSC occasionally hires short-term missionaries from countries outside of the Philippines for licensed nurse or teacher positions (this may be true for occupational therapist roles at some point as well). These positions are posted when they become available. However, you may contact our stateside office to indicate your desire to be contacted regarding one of these specific positions in the future. By and large, positions in Cebu are filled by residents of the Philippines. Unless a job is posted for these general and varied positions we request that you refrain from contacting us to indicate your interest in employment.
